Something a bit different for today’s ‘Getting to know’.
District Line Railway Football Club were founded in 1996 after the official creation of the FA affiliated London Underground League, a two division mid week league based on the 4G pitches at Market Road in Islington. All the teams are derived from London Underground Lines and other transports that operate under the ‘Transport For London’ banner.
District Line, known as ‘The Stags’ are the most successful team in the league with 10 Division 1 titles and 11 cups in their 23 year history.
Only becoming ‘The Stags’ at the beginning of this season when new player-manager Jason Hill was installed, the club was completely revitalised including new kits and a new badge for the team. The nickname was chosen as their railway line runs into Richmond, where the Royal Park has a large population of protected Stags and deer.
Currently sat in the Second Division, District Line have had a good season, sadly finishing just outside the promotion places in third place, the top two get promoted, positions which are currently filled by The Northern Line and Hammersmith and Circle.
Everyone here at ClimbingTheLadder would just like to wish ‘The Stags’ all the best for next season and we hope that you get promotion and get back into Division One where you belong.
