Getting to know: Pride Park

Today’s ‘Getting to Know’ is here and it’s something new for us here at ‘Getting to know’, a Ladies senior team.

Every other team we’ve featured has a men’s team and the vast majority have a ladies side but not all. This time however we are looking at a club where the only senior side is a female team.

Founded in 2002, Pride Park FC started life as Pride Park Juniors with a single mini Soccer team formed from a group of boys that had been playing at JJB Soccerdome on Pride Park, joining the Derby Junior League the following season.

Ever since the club has been growing, to the point where the club now features 6 teams, with male teams at u14 and u16, and female teams at u15’s and 17’s. With plans to introduce two new girls teams for the 19/20 season.

The Club’s first Girls team was established in 2005 and entered League competition the following season, progressing from under 11 through the Age groups up to under 18, becoming the Ladies team for the 2014-15 season, when the Club’s name was amended to Pride Park Juniors & Ladies.

The team entered the Derbyshire Ladies League for the 2014-15 season, finishing third in Division 2 and gaining promotion in their first season at Open Age. The following three seasons saw improvements, as the team finished fifth, third and second respectively in Division 1.

As part of the clubs future and to encourage the formation of new youth teams, the club applied successfully to host a FA SSE Wildcats Centre providing football for Girls aged 5-11. The centre now hosted at Moorways Sports Complex also home to the ladies senior team, seems to be helping the club with the introduction of two new teams for next season.

What will also be helping the bringing through of new teams, is the ethos that Pride Park stand for, where focus is on core values of Respect, Enjoyment and Inclusivity. Therefore the club, run by a team of volunteers is a perfect environment for young people to develop and enjoy the game.

Everyone here at ‘Climbing The Ladder’ would just like to wish Pride Park all the best for the 19/20 season and we hope your improvement lead you to another league title.
