Another day, another team starting in a new division next season.
Today’s ‘Getting to know’ is Bedworth United, known as ‘The Greenbacks’ Bedworth will be featuring in the Southern League Division One Central next season, after spending one season in the Southern League Premier Division Central they unfortunately were relegated in the 2018/19 season.
Founded in 1895, Bedworth have a long and eventful history that the recent relegation will just be another part off. Bedworth have ceased to exist and been reborn multiple times in their history, however since 1968 this iteration of the club has been at the forefront of football in Bedworth.

In their early years, ‘The Greenbacks’ repeatedly moved between leagues in their area having spent time in The Nuneaton and District League, The Central Amateur League and The Birmingham Combination. However in more recent times Bedworth United have been members of The Southern League since 1972. Moving between the two divisions of the Southern League five times in the last decade.
In their history Bedworth have had two homes of note, originally playing out of The British Queen Ground between 1911 and 1939, since then however the Oval on Coventry Road has been home to ‘The Greenbacks’. The stadium with a capacity of 3000, has an artificial surface and approximately 300 seats.
Ahead of the 2019/20 season, we are sure that Bedworth will be up there competing with the big teams competing for promotion back up to the Souther League Premier League Central, and we wish them all the best from everyone here at ‘Climbing The Ladder’.
