Getting to Know: FC Grand

How are most clubs founded? 9 times out of 10 its a group of friends who get together for a kick around. for today’s featured club however things started a little differently.

The club founder works for an organisation called The Grand, a Healthy Living Centre in Gravesend. In 2014 we were asked to run a project around getting men in the area active again and used Football as the activity.

For 6 months the group of players trained and had training games, then in January of 2015 one of the participants who is still a player/coach for Grand now Stef Hallett had the idea of making FC Grand a real club. And so in 2015 FC Grand was born and entered the Rochester District League.

From its beginning you may think that FC Grand is full of guys who used to play and are trying to get back into it, but you would be mistaken. Around 80% of FC Grand’s originally team had never played a game of competitive football.

Now the club is in its’s 5th season and has seen its share of success, winning the league cup in the 2018/19 season. While the club has added talent such as any club wanting to win things should, the club has managed to retain a core of 5 players from the original team that were only having a kick about to get fit!

FC Grand recently became a ‘Deliveroo’ Football club meaning that the club are set to receive a new match kit from the delivery giants, and from all of us here at ‘Climbing the Ladder’ we hope the kit brings you luck and you get a league title to sit with you cup from last year.
